The 2019 Audi e-tron is in stock now at Town Audi so you can come explore the future of Audi’s vehicles today! So what does the e-tron have to offer that makes it the safest electric vehicle on the market today?

What is Insurance Institute for Highway Safety?

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, or IIHS, is the auto industry’s most trusted organization for automobile safety ratings. The IIHS sets the standard for automobile safety ratings, as they put almost every new vehicle through rigorous safety and crash tests. The IIHS is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1959. Their purpose is to reduce automobile crash fatalities by providing the highest standards for vehicle safety. The IIHS rating scale from high to low scoring includes “Good”, “Acceptable”, “Marginal”, and “Poor”. In order for a vehicle to be awarded the Top Safety Pick+ award, the vehicle must score “Good” in every crashworthiness category including Small Overlap Front (Driver Side), Small Overlap Front (Passenger Side), Moderate Overlap Front, Side, Roof Strength, Head Restraints and Seats. The vehicle must also receive an “advanced” or “superior” rating for front crash avoidance, and a "good" or higher rating for headlights.

How the IIHS Scored the Audi e-tron

As previously mentioned, the Audi e-tron was awarded the Top Safety Pick+ which is the highest award given by the IIHS. This means the Audi e-tron earned the highest "good" rating in every crashworthiness category. If you’d like to read the full crash test summary and watch videos from the e-tron crash testing, you can visit the IIHS website. The Audi e-tron’s Audi Pre Sense safety system earned the highest “superior” rating possible from the IIHS for high-tech crash avoidance systems.

The Audi Pre Sense system comes standard on the e-tron which includes Audi Pre Sense Front and Audi Pre Sense Basic. Audi Pre Sense Front uses a front-mounted camera and can automatically brake to a full stop from 52 mph if pedestrian, bicyclists, or other hazards are in the roadway. Audi Pre Sense Basic will prepare the vehicle for a potential collision by partially closing all side windows, the sunroof, and tightening seat belts. Audi includes these safety systems and more in their other models. Actually, the 2019 Audi A3, A4, A6, and Audi Q8 also were awarded the Top Safety Pick+ award for their perfect scores!
